Privacy Policy

Last Updated: May 19, 2026.
TabMemory ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, how we store and protect it, and your rights regarding your personal information.

1. Data Collection

TabMemory collects only the data necessary to provide its core functionality. When you interact with the TabMemory browser extension or web dashboard, we may collect the following categories of data:

• Account Information: Email address and hashed password when you register for an account.

• Tab Intent Data: When you explicitly save a tab intention, we collect the page URL, page title, favicon URL, your intent note, the category you assign, and an auto-extracted text preview of the page content (up to 3,000 characters).

• Screenshots: If your browser permits, TabMemory may capture a low-resolution screenshot of the active tab at the moment you save an intention. This screenshot is uploaded to our cloud storage (Cloudflare R2) and linked to your saved memory. You can dismiss the overlay without saving, in which case no screenshot is stored.

• Usage Analytics: We collect aggregated, non-personally-identifiable usage metrics such as resolution rates and category breakdowns to power your personal analytics dashboard.

• Authentication Tokens: JWT access tokens and refresh tokens are stored locally in your browser's chrome.storage.local (extension) or in-memory state (web dashboard). These are never sent to third parties.

We do NOT collect or monitor your general browsing history, keystrokes, form inputs on other websites, or any data from tabs you do not explicitly interact with through the TabMemory overlay.

2. How We Use Your Data

Your data is used solely to provide, maintain, and improve the TabMemory service. Specifically:

• To populate your personal dashboard with your saved tab intentions, collections, and archive history.

• To generate your weekly analytics snapshots (resolution rates, category breakdowns, tab age metrics).

• To send you periodic accountability digest emails, if you have opted in to this feature.

• To authenticate your identity and maintain your session across the extension and web dashboard.

• To provide category suggestions based on your saved intent notes.

We do NOT use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the TabMemory service.

3. Data Storage & Security

All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS (TLS 1.2+) connections between the extension, web dashboard, and our backend servers.

• Database: Your data is stored in a MySQL 8.0 database hosted on secured infrastructure. Passwords are hashed using industry-standard bcrypt algorithms and are never stored in plaintext.

• Screenshot Storage: Tab screenshots are stored on Cloudflare R2 object storage with access restricted to authenticated requests from our backend.

• Local Storage: Authentication tokens are stored in Chrome's sandboxed chrome.storage.local API within the extension, which is isolated from web page access. The web dashboard stores tokens in application memory only (not localStorage).

• Access Controls: Our backend enforces strict per-user data isolation. You can only access your own data through authenticated API requests.

4. Data Sharing & Third Parties

TabMemory does NOT sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share your personal data with third parties for their own purposes. Your data is shared only in the following limited circumstances:

• Service Providers: We use Cloudflare R2 for screenshot storage and standard cloud hosting providers for our backend infrastructure. These providers process data solely on our behalf and under our instructions.

• Legal Requirements: We may disclose your data if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental request.

• Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. You will be notified of any such change.

We do NOT use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs within the Chrome extension.

5. Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the TabMemory service.

• Active account data (memories, collections, analytics) is retained indefinitely while your account exists.

• If you delete your account, all associated data — including memories, collections, analytics snapshots, screenshots, and authentication tokens — is permanently purged from our active databases within 30 days.

• Server logs containing IP addresses and request metadata are retained for a maximum of 90 days for security and debugging purposes, then automatically deleted.

• Refresh tokens expire after 30 days and are automatically pruned from our database.

6. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

The TabMemory Chrome extension does NOT use cookies. Authentication is handled via JWT tokens stored in Chrome's sandboxed storage API.

The TabMemory web dashboard may use essential cookies solely for session management and authentication. We do NOT use any advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics cookies.

We do NOT participate in cross-site tracking or fingerprinting of any kind.

7. Your Rights & Choices

You have the following rights regarding your data:

• Access: You can view all your stored data at any time through the TabMemory dashboard.

• Export: You can export your entire memory archive and account data at any time.

• Deletion: You can delete individual memories or your entire account. Account deletion permanently removes all your data from our systems.

• Correction: You can edit your intent notes, categories, and account information at any time.

• Opt-out: You can disable the extension's intelligent capture feature from your dashboard settings, and you can unsubscribe from digest emails at any time.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional rights under GDPR including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the CCPA including the right to know what personal information is collected and the right to request deletion.

8. Children's Privacy

TabMemory is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, by sending you an email notification.

Your continued use of TabMemory after any changes indicates your acceptance of the updated policy.
